Feedback on our film extract
Our basic plot for our film is based on a 17 year old girl who begins to read the thoughts of everyone around her. An unknown man contacts the girl by every means of communication possible but never in person. He seems to know everything about her and her gift, she begins to think she is becoming insane and attempts to find the unknown man to find out more about her gift and why he knows so much about it.Whilst trying to track him down she overhears the thoughts of a stranger whos thoughts disturb her, this leads to attempts to help and save him, a disasterous conclusion follows...

Our extract - Where the main character realises and tests her "gift", this is the beginning/middle of a film.

Feedback

1)
Actors unbelievable- members of public
Busy street shot-very good. Liked the speeding up effect
Liked the hearing thoughts of members of the public
Didn't like how it slowed down after the public scenes.Would have been better to put the titles between the fast paced bit and the slow paced bit.

2)
Overall story line is good
Good variety of camera shots
360 shot of lisette was a good idea but could have been better
Editing was good throughout
And music works well with the clip.

3)
Good shot types and variety of angles
Busy street shot very effective
Start of the phone call camera shot was good
Zooming in to faces and hearing thoughts very effective
"Hot dog" was only the bun

4)
Good use of sound effects
Liked town scene and special effects
Storyline- interesting
Shakey camera work during bedroom scenes
Could of cut shots of computer to make everything a bit tidier
Good locations.

5)
Love the fast camera shots/movement/editing
Music fits brilliantly with fast shots
Loved the crackly sound
Turning of the camera when she turns over on the bed-clever
Liked the voices of others around her.

Editing Our Footage (:

We have just finished our editing for our film extract and our very happy with our transitions. we had the challenge of making our opening clips for the extract look slightly bizarre and trippy, and we tried many different things to create this. One example of this would be the 360 degree shot of sophie, we edited this to make it look more weird by overlapping the same clip. this was effective as it gave the idea that she is overwhelmed with the voices and that they are coming from every angle with her in the middle.

Another major piece of editing we created was the zip Pan shot of a crowed high street, and focussing on the people. We did this pretty much just from filming but the

Filming

We took the afternoon to get our filming done, we were very successfull in getting all our footage in one a couple of hours. we had a very difficult job of trying to film people naturally carrying on with thier day to to day lives, this is hard if you tell them tyou are filming. They tend not to act natural and fail in acting at all. This meant we had to subtly film people without them knowing which can be hard if your walking around with a video camera. We were lucky to find that some people we did ask where good at acting natural.

The next problem we accured was getting enough voices over the top of the footage to represent the prople's thoughts. We resolved this by asking random people on the street to say stuff to the camera and then later extract the sound from the footage and use than seperatly. we were lucky to find alot of people didnt brush us off with the usual exit strategy when stopped in the street "i'm sorry i ahve a meeting" or " i am actually late for something". We got a good chunk of footage both for the voice overs and actual film footage.

The only small problems we ran into where lighting back at nicola's house while filming the phonecall. This was difficult as weshot a continueous shot of the messege popping up on thecomputer and the window next to the main character sent a glare onto the screen. But with common sense we resolved this by shutting the blinds :)

Problems we faced with our sound effects
whilst we were putting sound effects to our film extract, we realised that we would need to use a soundtrack as well as sound effects, this was because the range of sound effects that we had on offer did not suit some of the clips from the extract. We decided to merge music and sound effects together as this would create the illusion that she was hearing voices in her head, however, it would also create the sense of confusion for the audience.
It worked well because there was never any silence during the extract, which meant the music built tension throughout the extract, we used non diegetic sounds of radio tuning, this created the effect of her tuning in her head to read the minds of the people around her. We also used the voices of people talking from Cambridge to create the illusion that in her head, she could hear the voices of everyone around her. We overlapped the various voices we had recorded and slowed some of them down and quickened some of them up, this was to show that she could not control her gift of reading minds.
